Committees
Make A Difference: Apply for appointment to a State Bar Committee. Leadership of the State Bar not only involves the Board of Governors but also the lawyers throughout the state who make significant contributions to the profession by volunteering to serve on one of the State Bar's committees. The State Bar's committees presently consist of standing committees, special boards, commissions and committees, and section executive committees. The standing and special committees advise and serve the Board of Governors with regard to concerns that relate to the administration of justice and the practice of law, or that affect the profession at large. Each year, the Board of Governors appoints new members to these committees. The Board strives to make appointments that will achieve diversity and broad representation of the legal community. The participation of all State Bar members is encouraged by the Board. From time to time, the Board may appoint representatives of other professions and members of the public to select committees. In no case shall the Board of Governors appoint a person who is currently on disciplinary probation. Term of appointment and time commitment Members are appointed to varying terms. On occasion, the Board may appoint a member to fill an unexpired vacancy (i.e., the appointee serves only the remaining portion of the them of the member who resigned). Committee members receive no compensation for services. Committee members may be reimbursed for approved travel expenses, in accordance with the State Bar's travel policy and the committee's approved budget. Application review and Board Appointment Committees review the appointment applications and forward their recommendations to the Board of Governors. The ultimate authority to make the appointments rests with the Board. Applicants are notified of the Board's appointments. The committees to which applicants may apply are listed below.
