THE YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION IS LOOKING FOR YOU!
BY JENNIFER HILSABECK, ESQ., YOUNG LAWYERS CHAIR
My term as chair of the Young Lawyers Section is slowly drawing closer to its end, and therefore, in addition to wistfully counting the ways in which I will soon be able to fill my free time (Tivo, here I come!), I must also embark upon the task of finding my replacement on the YLS Executive Council. If you’ve been reading my column regularly, you have undoubtedly heard me mention time and again how rewarding and yes, even enjoyable, it is to be an active member of the Young Lawyers Section. I’ve given specific examples of various volunteer and networking opportunities available and next month, I will (hopefully) have photographic proof of my claims in the form of pictures taken during the Rocky Mountain Regional Young Lawyers Conference, in which I will attempt to capture young lawyers having a great time with their peers while in a continuing education credit seminar setting (although I’m betting that the most memorable images will be captured during the evening social events).
If my words have piqued your curiosity and you live in the Las Vegas Valley, then you may be just the man or woman for whom the YLS is looking. In order to be eligible for a position on the YLS Executive Council, you must be a YLS Member (which is defined as being either (i) 36 years of age or younger; OR (ii) admitted to practice here in Nevada for five years or fewer) and you must submit a resume and letter of interest to jennifer.hilsabeck@anclv.com on, or before, May 15, 2007. The position carries a two-year term. In addition to participating in monthly conference calls with the other YLS Executive Council Members, you will be expected to routinely organize and participate in the various YLS activities in your area during your term. Once again, I cannot emphasize enough how enjoyable these events are, and would encourage you to contact me if you have any specific questions regarding this position.
I apologize for the brevity of my column this month, but since I am writing it on the eve of the Rocky Mountain Regional Young Lawyers Conference, I must admit that I am far over my quota of allotted “bar service” time this week! Keep your eye out for next month’s column, which will recap the highlights of our conference and hopefully inspire some of you out there in southern Nevada to apply for this open position!
