Gaming Law Section: Tournament Raises Record Amount for Law Scholarship

TOURNAMENT RAISES RECORD AMOUNT OF $55,000 FOR GLS LAW SCHOLARSHIP

On the afternoon of Friday, May 6, the Gaming Law Section held the 11th Annual Law Scholarship Golf Tournament. The open (four-person scramble) tournament drew a sellout of 144 golfers, who were greeted by sun and 96 degree temperatures at the historic Las Vegas National Golf Club, which was graciously donated for the fourth straight year by John J. Knott, II. This year’s charitable event raised a record amount of $55,000 for the “Gaming Law Section Scholarship” at the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV In its 11-year run, the golf tournament . has generated more than $333,000 in scholarship money and helped more than 66 future Nevada lawyers meet their goals. The team of Judge David Gibson, Judge Steven Jones, Fred Kennedy and Steven Kennedy took First Place on a tiebreaker with a net score of 51 (20 under par). The team of Vernon Nelson, Keith Beaman, Michael Saunders and David Grolman from Cooper Levenson/Arizona Charlie’s/Nevada Attorney General’s Office took Second Place with a net score of 51 (20 under par). The team of Sal Gugino, Tom Twesme, Tony Ager and Sean Ingram from Gugino Law Firm, Chtd/Boyd Gaming Corporation took Third Place with a net score of 55 (16 under par). The team of Linda Rosel, Dani Harris, Ted Pribnow and Dean Greenwood from the Nevada Attorney General’s Office took the High Score with a net score of 68 (3 under par). The men’s and women’s long drives were sponsored by WMS Gaming and Penn National Gaming, Inc., respectively. This year’s champions were Brandon Sendall and Christine Smith. The men’s and women’s closest-to-the-pin contests were sponsored by LexisNexis and the Washington D.C. law firm of Kaye Scholer LLP respectively. Mark , Ferrario and Dianne Fouret landed their shots closest to the holes. IGT sponsored the hole-in-one contest on the 8th hole for a 2011 Corvette Grand Sport provided by Findlay Chevrolet and Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Nevada. Unfortunately, there were no winners again this year.
