“Without our volunteer base, the YLS could not provide the services we provide and with our growing base of volunteers, our programs have thrived and continued to grow in popularity.”
Young Lawyers
BY RYAN J. WORKS, Young Lawyers Chair
With the new year comes new hope, New Year’s resolutions, new bar dues and a chance to start fresh. For many of us, the newness of a new year wears off relatively quickly after the fireworks go off and the lights go out on January 1. As Chairman of the Young Lawyers Section, it means a new year of organizing, planning and participating in continuing legal education, law related education in our K-12 schools, charitable and community activities, recruitment and barrelated events. Below is a preview of two of our most anticipated events of 2011 – we hope you will join us.
State Bar Annual Meeting in Kauai, Hawaii, Grand Hyatt June 23-25, 2011
This year’s Annual Meeting is sure to be a good one, not only because it is in Hawaii, but because the Young Lawyers Section will again be putting on the highly acclaimed “Trial Academy.” This year’s format will be a bit different but will bring the same intense trial training by some of Nevada’s finest trial attorneys and judges. For a newly minted Nevada lawyer, you don’t want to miss this event. The Young Lawyers Section will be publishing materials on this CLE in the coming months and space will be extremely limited, so sign up early and get your reservations for the Grand Hyatt on the island of Kauai. Finally, during 2010, the Young Lawyers Section had a record number of volunteers for its various events. Without our volunteer base, the YLS could not provide the services we provide and with our growing base of volunteers, our programs have thrived and continued to grow in popularity. I would like to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who have given up their valuable time over the past year, with special mention of Bryce Loveland, who volunteered to participate on five separate occasions for the Young Lawyers in 2010. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
American Bar Association (ABA) Spring Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada May 12-15, 2011
This year’s ABA Spring Meeting is being hosted by the great city of Las Vegas. Although the details of the event are currently in the planning stages, this meeting is certain to bring a large gathering (as is typical with Las Vegas). In conjunction with the Young Lawyers Division of the ABA, the Nevada Young Lawyers Section will be a part of the planning committee for several key events. Specifically, the Nevada YLS will host a social event during the opening days of this conference for all young lawyers in attendance. This is a great way to expand your practice, meet out-of-state counsel, and make other potentially valuable connections. With Las Vegas serving as the centerpiece for the conference, our members will have an immediate talking point with our out-of-state guests. Look for more details to follow in the coming months.
