Laurel Elizabeth Davis was recently appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada by Judge Alex Kozinski, the Chief Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. Davis is filling the vacancy left by Judge Bruce Markell who retired on July 10, 2013. She was sworn-in on July 12, 2013 by Judge Linda Riegle who will be retiring at the end of July, but will remain on recall until the end of 2014.
Davis is a shareholder with the Las Vegas law firm of Fennemore Craig Jones Vargas, she is also a member of Fennemore Craig's management committee. Davis also worked for Lionel Sawyer Collins from 1987 to 2007. Outside of work, Davis has been active in Nevada's legal community, serving as a master of the Howard D. McKibben chapter of the Inn of Court, mentoring new bar admittees through the Transitioning Into Practice program and chairing the Bankruptcy Section of the State Bar of Nevada for two years.
"Ms. Davis is an experienced practitioner who is well regarded by the bench and bar. She will be an asset to the bankruptcy court in Nevada," remarked Kozinski.
Davis is a graduate of UNLV and the University of San Diego Law School. She is originally from Milford, Utah.
