Eighth Judicial District Court Issues Order to Electronically Apply for Search Warrants, Pen Registers, and Wiretaps

On Tuesday, April 21, the Eighth Judicial District Court issued Administrative Order 20-14, streamlining processes for the electronic review and issue of search warrants, pen registers, trap and trace, stored communications and communication interception. The order states that the court will accept and make use of electronic signatures in the processing of applications.

For the signing of documents related to search warrants and court orders for surveillance, the Eighth Judicial District Court will accept typewritten signatures as “/s/ officer’s first initial last name and badge number.” Applications may also be signed electronically with the officer’s actual signature.

More information, including the process to be used for obtaining warrants or court orders, is available in Administrative Order 20-14. This process is effective April 21 for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Henderson Police Department. For other agencies, this process is voluntary until April 27, 2020, and mandatory thereafter.
