First Judicial District Court and Carson City Justice/Municipal Court Stay Jury Trials

On Monday, March 16, the First Judicial District Court and the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court issued an administrative order in response to the recent outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Nevada.

According to the order, the court will follow the Nevada Supreme Court’s recommendation to stay jury trials and modify operations. The First Judicial District Court and the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court finds that taking this action to suspend jury trials in civil and criminal cases protects the community and outweighs the interest of the parties and the public in a speedy trial or hearing.

First Judicial District Court and the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court will identify non-essential court cases that can be rescheduled or be heard by video conference or teleconference. Reasonable notice will be given to the parties.

Jury trials, both civil and criminal, will be suspended/stayed for a period of not less than 30 days.

The administrative order will continue until modified or rescinded by a subsequent order.
