Las Vegas Justice Court Implements Temporary Procedures for Criminal Cases
On Wednesday, April 22, the Las Vegas Township Justice Court issued Administrative Order 20-09, which extends the following administrative orders until further notice: 20-03, 20-04, 20-05, 20-07 and 20-08.
Jury trials for both criminal and civil cases have been suspended; they will be rescheduled as the court calendar allows. Priority will be given to in-custody defendants who have invoked their speedy-trial rights.
Due to technological challenges, the court will not resume issuing Writs of Execution until May 1, 2020. Consistent with that date, the stay on all previously issued Writs of Execution will be extended through April 30, 2020.
Eviction matters pertaining to unlawful detainer actions are superceded by the governor’s Emergency Directive 008.
The time period of any criminal trial continuance(s) resulting from the stay of trials imposed due to COVID-19 shall be excluded for the purposes of calculating the speedy trial time limit.
