PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The State Bar of Nevada’s Lawyer Referral and Service (LRS) has been serving the public since 1979 by referring clients in need of legal services to qualified attorneys statewide. The LRS serves the public interest by assisting individuals who are able to pay normal attorney fees but are unable to locate appropriate legal representation dues to a lack of experience with the legal system, a lack of information about the type of service needed or a fear of the potential costs of seeing a lawyer.

Lawyers who are members of LRS pay a $50 annual fee and, if retained by the client, remit 20% of all net fees earned and collected beyond the initial consultation fee.

HOW IT WORKS

Clients may obtain a referral by calling the LRS toll-free number and talking to one of our dedicated staff. Callers are screened to elicit pertinent information about the nature of their legal problem. Alternatively, clients may request a referral through the LRS online marketplace where they can self-identify their legal issue and request a referral.

Attorneys are selected on a rotational basis based on the practice area for which the referral is sought and geographical location of the attorney and client. The client is provided the name of one attorney and both parties are notified of the referral. The referred attorney may contact the client directly with the client’s consent (obtained during the referral process).

The LRS panel attorney may charge the referred client a $45 consultation fee. The initial consultation fee may be waived at the attorney’s discretion.  All compensation for services beyond the initial consultation are subject to an agreement between the attorney and the referred client.
