The Summer YLS Section Newsletter is now available.


Purpose

To provide opportunities for the assimilation of young lawyers into the profession as well as a training ground for future leaders of our bar. YLS membership is open to all attorneys who have been admitted in Nevada for less than five years, or are 36 years old or younger. From mentor programs, to organizing charity events, to networking, to fighting to improve the image of attorneys in general, YLS has a wide array of activities.

Biographies

Jeffrey M. Conner, Esq. (Chair )

Jeffrey is a Deputy Attorney General in the Appellate Division of the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Nevada, where his work focuses almost entirely on defending against petitions for writs of habeas corpus filed by Nevada inmates in both state and federal court.  Prior to joining the Attorney General’s office, Jeffrey clerked for the Honorable Patrick Flanagan in the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County and briefly entered private practice, working on civil and commercial litigation matters on a contractual basis.

Jeffrey received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2004, and he graduated with his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Gonzaga University School of Law in 2009.  While at Gonzaga, Jeffrey served as the Student Bar Association President and a Notes/Comments Editor on the Gonzaga Law Review.  Jeffrey is also a current member of the Young Professionals Committee with the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.  He was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 2009 and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, District of Nevada and the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.

 

Jordan A. Davis, Esq. (Chair Elect)

Mr. Davis is an attorney at the Washoe County Public Defender’s Office.  Prior to serving in that capacity, Mr. Davis was a member of Fennemore Craig’s Government Affairs Practice Group and an associate at Lionel Sawyer & Collins.  His practice focused on government relations, complex civil litigation and commercial litigation.During law school, Mr. Davis mediated cases, worked in a civil litigation firm and externed for a well-respected criminal defense attorney in San Diego, California.  Mr. Davis also worked under current Nevada Governor, and then Federal Judge Brian E. Sandoval in the United States District Court, District of Nevada and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable David Wiseman, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Superior Court, Saipan, upon his graduation from law school and subsequently, for the Honorable Brent Adams, Second Judicial District Court of the State of Nevada.

 

Scott Lachman, Esq. (Secretary)

Scott Lachman is an associate attorney at Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial in Las Vegas. Scott concentrates his practice on all phases of complex commercial litigation, including catastrophic injury, construction, premises liability, and appellate practice. He previously clerked for then-Chief Justice Michael A. Cherry of the Supreme Court of Nevada in Carson City. Prior to his three-year state appellate clerkship, Scott received a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, Scott served as Vice President of the student body and as Executive Director of the Association of Big Ten Students. He presently chairs the Disaster Legal Services Program, which provides pro bono legal services to victims of natural disasters throughout the State of Nevada. Scott was the 2013 State Bar of Nevada Young Lawyer of the Year.

 

Dylan T. Ciciliano (Treasurer)

Mr. Ciciliano is an associate in Garman Turner Gordon’s Commercial Litigation practice group. His experience includes representing clients in complex civil litigation cases and defending clients against allegations of fraud, conspiracy, RICO claims and malfeasance. Mr. Ciciliano also has experience with medical malpractice cases, complex criminal defense, and a wide variety of business disputes. Mr. Ciciliano obtained his master’s degree in Economics at the University of Nevada-Reno and worked for the Washoe County Commission. Mr. Ciciliano was also the Senior Managing Editor for the Arizona Journal of International and Comparative Law.

 

Michael B. Lee

Mike is a life-long Native Nevadan with contacts to both Northern and Southern Nevada.  He has substantial experience in most areas of Litigation and Civil Appeals.  Mike’s trial experience includes both jury and bench trials in civil and criminal matters, and immigration removal hearings.  As to his appellate experience, he has successfully handled appeals before the Nevada Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court resulting in multiple published opinions.

Mike has received various awards and recognitions for his legal ability.  He has a Preeminent AV Peer Rating from Martindale Hubbell.  Super Lawyers magazine selected Mike as a Super Lawyer twice after multiple years of recognition as a “Rising Star” in the Nevada Legal field.  Additionally, Nevada Business Magazine selected him as a Legal Elite: Top 100 Lawyers in Southern Nevada multiple times, and Avvo rated Mike as “10.0 / 10.0” and gave him the “Client’s Choice” award for reviews from his clients.  Mike has also been recognized by Vegas, Inc. and Desert Companion Magazine for his achievements and excellence.

Mike earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Boyd School of Law, graduating in the top 25% of his class.  He won the CALI Award for Excellence for Torts II and made the Dean’s List for academic achievement.  He worked as a student attorney for the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, an extern for United States District Court (then Chief) Judge Philip M. Pro, and as a research assistant for two law professors. Additionally, he also received training from the Clark County Neighborhood Justice Center to become a mediator for small claims court disputes.  Mike earned his B.A. in psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno.  There, he was an Associate Student Justice for the Judicial Counsel, and a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Mike’s service activities include serving as the current General Counsel to the Korean Chamber of Commerce.  He currently serves as the vice-chair of the Business Law, Trial Techniques, Plaintiff’s Task Force committees for the American Bar Association – Tort Insurance Practice Section.  He previously served as president of the American Asian Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas, the president of the Boyd School of Law Alumni Association, and as a member of the Fee Dispute Arbitration Program for the State Bar of Nevada.

 

Eric M. Pepperman

Eric is an associate at the law firm of Kemp, Jones & Coulthard, LLP.  His practice is focused on litigation, primarily in the areas of products liability; eminent domain; commercial litigation; and complex litigation.  Prior to joining Kemp, Jones & Coulthard, Eric served as a law clerk to the Honorable Michael P. Villani in Nevada’s Eighth Judicial District Court from 2009 to 2010.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2004.  He earned his Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2009.  While at Boyd, Eric received multiple CALI Awards (highest grade in a class) and received SCRIBES, The American Society of Legal Writers Award.

 

Amber Duvall

Amber Duvall is an Associate Attorney at Handelin Law, Ltd, in Carson City, Nevada. She is a native Nevadan who advises clients and litigates on a wide range of legal matters, including estate planning and administration, business formation, real estate, personal injury, residential community association issues, administrative law, and family law. Amber earned her Juris Doctor with distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2013. She ranked in the top 1/5 of her class, earning enrollment on the Dean’s Honor List for each of her three years and earning Witkin awards for the highest grade in Civil Procedure and Second Year Legal Writing. Amber earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics with a minor in Business Law from UNLV.
