New Ethics Opinions Approved by Committee

On Oct. 18, 2019, the Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Ethics approved two new ethics opinion for publication. Prior to approval, the committee sought and collected written comments from members of the state bar on the proposed draft opinions. The results of the committee’s review, and links to the opinions, are as follows:

  • RE ABA Formal Opinion 10-456/Criminal Defense Lawyer Facing Allegations of Ineffective Assistance of Counsel – The Committee reviewed public comment on the proposed opinion and determined that none of the objections raised new issues that had not already been taken into consideration after withdrawal of the original proposed opinion and reissuance of a new opinion after consideration of prior public comment in compliance with the Nevada Supreme Court’s October 11, 2018, Order in AO 0006.  The Committee approved submission of the proposed opinion for publication pursuant to SCR 225.
  • In-House Counsel Employment/Stock Agreement – The Committee reviewed public comment on the proposed opinion; all comments were in support of the proposed opinion and there were no objections.  The Committee approved submission of the proposed opinion for publication pursuant to SCR 225.
